To ensure a consistently high level of safety in civil aviation, experts from the Civil Aviation Agency (CAA) conducted 39 in-depth aircraft inspections in 2024. These were carried out both randomly and based on priority criteria.
The inspections covered aircraft from the European Union and European Economic Area, as well as third-country aircraft, to verify their compliance with international flight safety standards.
The results of last year’s inspections indicate a downward trend in the number of identified non-compliances, which correlates with the decreased number of third-country aircraft arriving in Latvia.
CAA collects information on aircraft flight safety. Passengers and other individuals involved in civil aviation, or those who have witnessed incidents, are also encouraged to report observed or potential flight safety hazards to the CAA.
The information received may serve as grounds for inspections of aircraft registered in Latvia or abroad. These reports are confidential, and the identity of the person submitting the report is not disclosed to third parties.
Currently, the number and distribution of inspections among EU member states is primarily determined by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). However, member states may conduct additional inspections if there are suspicions of safety risks—based on reports from passengers, aviation personnel, incident reports, and similar sources.
