Riga Airport Handled more than 1.3 million Passengers in the First Three Months

According to preliminary data on the Airport's performance, in March, RIX Riga Airport served 509 thousand passengers, or 11 percent more than a year earlier. The number of direct passengers, as compared to last March, increased by nine percent, exceeding 410 thousand passengers; it exceeds the pre-pandemic indicator by four percent. Since the beginning of the year, more than 1.3 million passengers have been handled at Riga Airport.

The number of transit passengers in March, as compared to March 2023, increased by 16 percent and reached 99.3 thousand travelers. Therefore, the number of transit passengers in March at Riga Airport made up 19 % of all travelers. Last March, the proportion of transit passengers accounted for 17 % of the total number of passengers.

During the month, the Airport handled 4 677 passenger, air cargo, technical, business and other flights, or 3 % more than in March of the previous year.

282 thousand or 55 % of the passengers flew with national airline airBaltic; 133 thousand or 26 % used the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair.

Since the beginning of the year, more than 1.3 million passengers have been served at Riga Airport, of which 1.06 million, or the same as in 2019, flew on direct flights, while 263 thousand travelers had Riga as a transfer airport on their way to other destinations.

In March, 1481 tonnes of air cargo were handled at Riga Airport, and since the beginning of the year – 3970 tonnes. airBaltic carried the largest share of air cargo, followed by European Air Transport, FedEx and Finnair.
